At LASG, we are proud to field both a Girls' Team and a Boys' Team. Girls who have achieved the Bronze Level or above and are deemed qualified by the Director are part of our travel team and compete at meets throughout New Mexico. Our team is participating in the Xcel program, an alternative optionals program for levels Copper through Diamond (levels 3 through 10 equivalent). The Boys' travel team is made up of gymnasts who have qualified to Level 4 and have been cleared by the Director.
Levels 3-5 are "compulsory," meaning that the routines in all four events (vault, floor, beam and uneven parallel bars) are standardized. Levels 6-10 and Bronze through Diamond are "optional," meaning that gymnasts perform individually choreographed routines (depending on level). The New Mexico competitive season for all levels currently is December through May.
LASG holds several home meets throughout the season, and all gymnasts are expected to attend home meets. There are opportunities to attend a number of away meets around New Mexico, to which a gymnast may travel after attaining a certain level of competency at home meets. Scores achieved during the competitive season determine both whether a gymnast qualifies for the state championship meet, and eligibility to move to the next level. These score standards are detailed on the team board and in the team contracts handed out at the team parents' meeting each year.
LASG expects our gymnasts to follow the rules and guidelines as presented by the director and as directed by USAG rules. These include but are not limited to the following:
